Open your computer's Web browser and then navigate to the Samsung Support website (see Resources).Enter the model number associated with your Samsung Blu-ray player in the field labeled, "Start by Entering Your Product's Model Number or Name".Copy the extracted folder onto a blank USB flash drive or burn the folder to a blank disc.Remove a disc from the Samsung Blu-ray player if one is in it and then connect the USB flash drive to the USB port on the back of the Blu-ray player.

Navigate to the location where you saved the upgrade file on your computer, right-click the file and click "Extract Here" to extract the contents of the ZIP file to a single folder.

Remove any discs that are in the Samsung Blu-ray player and press the "Menu" button on the remote control.

Select "Settings." Choose "Support" and select "Software Upgrade."Select "By Internet." A message will appear saying the Blu-ray player is connecting to a server.

It also allows Netflix and other streaming companies to update their capabilities and have Blu-ray players take advantage of it.

One of the major reasons for firmware updates, though, is copy protection.
